Seven Short Stories in Six Weeks
with Matt Powell
Short stories go a long way. A well-written short story can shock us, challenge us, or force us to examine our own lives. In this engaging summer course, we will look at seven classic short stories, discussing theme, character, metaphor, and the context of the work in the writer’s life. Selections will include stories by classic writers, including Jack London, Flannery O’Connor, and Leo Tolstoy. All materials will be provided.
Instructor Bio:
Matt Powell is a locally based writer and musician. His work has been featured in multiple national publications, including Variety, No Depression, and Angels Flight-literary west. He taught the comparative literature class, The Language of the River, at ASUMH last Spring.
*Directions to classroom:
Enter the main campus entrance off Hwy 62.At the first stop sign turn left. Go up the hill and the Vada Sheid will be the building to your left.Once you enter through the front entrance of the Sheid, there are double doors to your right. The conference room is straight ahead.
